Everything's changing
Well... gosh... that was a lot of comments for my first post! Thank you very much for your various hellos - it's very nice to meet you all.
My mum wonders whether the title of my blog suggests that I'm going to change. That's not really the plan - it is more an indication of how life is at the moment. If you're a reader of mum's blog then you'll know that in the last year my grandmother has moved in with my parents; my mum has retired; my dad has decided to retire; my sister has had a baby and my brother has got engaged. Somewhere in amongst all that, I both moved to London, started a new job and got married, so we've pretty much covered all of life's major stages. 2011 was quite a year.
So, in 2012, I'm hoping for a little less change and a little more stability. The photo above is of our big bookcase in our little London flat. My husband hasn't had much stability over that past 5 years or so - unfortunately undergoing constant change part of actor's job description. He's lived out of a suitcase for a long time while touring the country's regional theatres and used to long for a place of his own where he could finally unpack the boxes cluttering up his parents' house. Owning a bookcase became one of his ambitions and last year we finally made the trip to IKEA to buy ourselves a selection of Billy bookcases to house our books, DVDs and CDs. For him, home is where his books are.
London isn't quite 'home' yet for me. However, we've done various things to make it more so. In the photo you can see some of the motley but much loved collection of furniture brought down from Edinburgh. I also changed the lampshades to match the ones in my Edinburgh flat and, at the back, you can see I've arranged a blue glass jar and a couple of jugs (to remind me of my mum) on the kitchen window sill.
Here's wishing you a predictable 2012.

Hello again. Wish I could come and see your flat... xxx Mum (Blogger is failing to recognise me, grrr)
ReplyDeleteOh, it then did recognise me. Un-grrr. Love you!
ReplyDeleteYour "motley" furniture looks like something out of a glossy magazine; must be the way you put it together!
